Did you know that you can get a free annual credit report from all three major credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion? Many sites promise credit reports for free…but AnnualCreditReport.com is the only official site explicitly directed by Federal law to provide them. Other online sites or apps (like Credit Karma) are actually lead generators for credit card companies and are not giving you a true credit report.

Once you get your free report, you want to make sure that you recognize the information on it including your personally identifiable information, such as names, addresses, Social Security Number, as well as all of the accounts and loans. If you find information that does not belong to you or is incorrect, contact the business listed for the account or the credit reporting company that issued the report.
